We celebrated Memorial Day Weekend with friends at the Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park just north of Floyd, VA as part of the Southeastern Camping Unit (thanks to Joe and Annette Conoly for herding us cats).
Joe led the armada down the Little River for close to 7 miles – gorgeous views, flowers and pristine weather.
Rosie and Lucy (our dogs) enjoyed camaraderie with their canine friends. They all enjoyed a run in the field below the park – Rosie in particular raced around like she had just received legs. Sunsets are spectacular here as are the flowers. And after dark the meadow is brought alive by the sparkling of fireflies.
We peddled our bikes 16 miles on the New River Trail in Foster Falls in the state park of the same name. In spite of its name, the New River is one of the five oldest rivers in the world, and actually flows north (extremely unusual for a river to run north). The trail is a multi-use trail for hikers, bikers and horseback riders and is just a fantastic place to ride bikes. As you might guess the trail is a converted railroad and runs right along the river, so some incredible views.
Food, fellowship, fun… not a bad weekend!
