We saved the best stop of this trip for last, to see Child Unit 1, who is working on her master’s degree in public policy (MPP) at Duke University. (Child Unit 2 will have to wait for the snows to recede before we visit him.). We are insanely proud of both our kids.
We camped nearby at Falls Lake in Durham, a North Carolina state park, which by the way is gorgeous.
While ordinarily we would have been out paddling on the lake or hiking the trails, we wanted to expend every waking minute invading our daughter’s privacy. What child does not relish the idea of his/her parents descending for a weekend?

As we had not seen the campus previously, we toured the general campus and the Sanford School – what a beautiful school and surrounding community!
More important matters called, like seeing up close and personal one of the local breweries, Fullsteam, which is a local sourced and brewed craft beer brewery that makes some really tasty southern brews (many awesome awards to their name).
We were there mid-afternoon, and the place was jumping! Was it because they knew it was our 28th wedding anniversary? Yes, this was our 28th, and coincidentally one of our songs (Baby I’m Yours) was playing for us on the jukebox. How awesome is that!
We capped off a terrific night with dinner at JuJu’s, which is an Asian Tapas restaurant and bar, also in Durham. Let me tell you – this was SUPURB! They serve small plates with huge flavor; I would describe their food as explosive in flavor. One of their items was a braised beef short rib wanton – OMG, but every dish was delish! Save your pennies, but worth it!!
Next stop? Marietta! Hopefully we will get back in time to light a fire in the fire pit, catch a little part of the Masters on TV, and clean out the trailer. OK, so maybe two out of three may be more reasonable… What a nice road trip, but it will be nice to get home and see friends and neighbors.
Marietta. Where a Happy Ending awaits.
What a great way to end your trip and celebrate your anniversary!
