San Antonio – Mar 2017

It has been years but we revisited San Antonio, home to the Alamo, the Riverwalk – and the Pearl Neighborhood. We used this chance to meet up with friends, enjoy the Riverwalk, and test out a few craft beers and some excellent food.

We had heard or been told that the Pearl neighborhood was a cool place to visit in San Antonio. Good call. This was a really great area that has been revitalized from its former (and still) life as a brewery. What was once called the San Antonio Brewing Association brewed a beer called Pearl. Back in the 1950’s they changed the name to the Pearl Brewing Company after its most successful beer.

Today the brewery and surroundings have been made into a great area with some number of shops, some great restaurants, and oh yes, beer. We went to the Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery for beers and oysters, and then over to a restaurant called Cured, which incidentally, serves cured food. Now who would have guessed that?

We did visit the Alamo, although if you have done that once you have largely checked the box. San Antonio remains a cool town to visit, and of course the bikeways that run along the river allow for some great biking – at least by day. Great town San Antonio!
