2025 in Review – Dec 2025

I wasn’t going to do a year-in-review post this year, because no one ever reads these posts.  Well, besides me.  I suffer from a medical malady called CRS, so these posts do a yeoman’s job of summarizing our debacles during the previous twelve months.  My guess is we stuck our toes in about 25-30 states this year alone.  If any of these pictures piques your interest, just click on the picture and you will be taken to the original post.

I should note that the 2025 year for us began at the end of December of 2024.  Since the kids weren’t coming for Christmas, we took off from New Hampshire and headed south and west.  You might remember our post from last December when we celebrated Christmas in Terlingua, TX.  Everyone should do that.

January was largely spent in New Mexico and Arizona, with a short diversion (for me) to go ski with friends at Heavenly in California.  This two-month trip was fabulous and got us (briefly) back to our old neighborhood in Georgia to see friends.

February, March and April were local for us in New Hampshire, with a mix of local activities, seeing friends, and (for me) skiing.

May and June were emotional, with our daughter being diagnosed with cancer and requiring surgery.  Since that time, all is well, thank you – clean bill of health.  When anyone in your family is not well, you instantly recognize how unimportant everything else is.

We have come to learn that living on the New Hampshire seacoast means we have no desire to travel during the summer – largely because we live where you would want to visit in the summer.  We made liberal use of our scooters this summer to take us to the local biker bar and other assorted summer activities.  To your question, yes, we do wear helmets.  I have to say that a lot of those activities involved ice cream, lobsters, assorted seafood and fried dough.

Speaking of summer activities, in August we had Child Units 2 and 2B in town and had a blast with them – which included a lobster boat tour.  In our 70+ years on this planet, neither one of us had ever gone out on a lobster boat, but it was so much fun!

And speaking of family, we enjoyed a brief overnight in late August to southern Vermont to see my niece and nephew and their kids – fantastic.

In early September we made a trip up to northern Vermont (South Hero Island) to enjoy some local flavor and incredible biking.  This is such a great area – so pretty.  Did I mention Vermont maple creemees???  South Hero Island is a central location if you want to visit Burlington, Stowe, or Montreal, as well as a ton of outdoor hiking and biking.  A ferry ride over to Newburgh (NY) gets you to Clare and Carl’s for the best hot dogs.

Towards the end of September, we hooked up the trailer and took off.  But literally days before leaving, we adopted a new dog, Nana.  For the first 90 days with us, her “norm” was either riding in the truck or camping with us in the trailer.  We’ll see how she adjusts to normal house living…. In those first 90 days, she dipped her paws in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.  And she has proved herself to be a nice traveling partner.

It is amazing to me all the places we have visited – and mostly new places to us.  Which, with all the traveling we have done over the years, it seems like we should have run out of new places by now.  Not the case, thanks to my bride and her meticulous travel planning abilities.  From New Hampshire across to Denver, the Western Slope, Utah, Nevada, Ventura, California and beyond on this last trip alone, we traveled until reaching our destination in Denver to celebrate Thanksgiving with our kids.  We arrived back in New Hampshire in early December, following a somewhat southern route to avoid weather, and we will be camped out here until, well, whenever!

What an amazing year!  In no order, photos from the 2025 highlight reel….

May you enjoy good health and happiness and a fabulous 2026!

  1. Other than the scooters and the airstream, our photos are almost identical. Including our choice of travel routes. I’m surprised we haven’t crashed into each other. I enjoyed reading your blog, keep it up.

  2. Great travels & photos. Love the scooters too. I was seriously looking at a Vespa until measurement revealed that it would not fit in my truck bed. I think scooters would be the very best way to tour most National Parks.

    1. Scooters are great, but we don’t take them when traveling. We rely on our ebikes, like what we did at Zion, which to your point, was awesome!

    1. Thank you Dan – certainly being retired is a big help, but I think you guys do mire travel than maybe you account for!

  3. It was a great year and well with recording and sharing. You will never run out of new places to visit in this lifetime. Even roads traveled years before have new experiences to enjoy when returning years later.

You’ve now got us psyched to head west in late January 2027 to enjoy some Texas, New Mexico and Arizona sunshine again, with perhaps a few days in Palm Springs. Then again, the mention of lobsters and maple creamies have excited my taste buds for another trip to the northeast. So many places to see and experience one time or many . . . . Life is good! You and Karen know how to live big and live long!
