Like every other Florida State Park we have been to, Oscar Scherer State Park is terrific. Located in a fairly densely populated area between Venice and Sarasota on the Florida gulf coast, you would never know you were camped in an urban area.
Hiking, bike trails, kayaking – awesome. We watched a parent bald eagle feeding their 2 young in a nest, experienced all kinds if wildlife, although did not see alligators or Manatees but they are in the area. Note: the camping sites near the river do not allow dogs because apparently alligators find them intriguing. Also found out from a friend about a Tiki bar up the intra-coastal waterway. Paddled up the waterway and found it! Way cool, although must admit the paddle back after cocktails seems a little bit longer trip back.
