Last weekend I had the opportunity to join a couple of buddies for a Global Arts Live concert at the Crystal Ballroom in Davis Square (Somerville, MA) to see Altan, a traditional Irish band.  Wow.  They are SO good – I described to my buddy that it was singularly the most beautiful concert I had ever attended.

Altan members include Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh on fiddle and vocals (she is an amazing singer), Ciaran Curran on bouzouki, Daithi Sproule on guitar, Martin Tourish on accordion, and Claire Friel on fiddle.  All were amazing.

The Global Arts live program in Boston features a number of extremely varied artists, held in 9 limited-sized venues across Boston.  The venues include the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre (Emerson College), the Berklee Performance Center (Berklee School of Music),  Sanders Theatre (Harvard University), City Winery, and others.

We were able to fit in a pint and a meal before the concert at the Burren, an Irish pub nearby.  We all must make sacrifices.
