I know this is a travel blog, but in the summertime, since we live in New England, we don’t generally travel very much, or very far. It’s just so freaking nice right here. But that doesn’t mean we sit on our fat ass and wait for fall. Well, truth be told, we do some of that too. But that’s another story, for another blog (BarcaloungersAreUs.com). This story is about a most awesome bike ride along Maine’s beautiful coastline in and around South Portland.

The Maine Lighthouse Ride is an annual event and offers riders the ability to sign up for 25-, 40-, 60-, or 100-mile rides. I wanted to do the 100-mile ride (not), but we chose the 25-mile ride. Meanwhile, friends did the 40- and 60-mile versions. Overachievers.

The ride benefits the Eastern Trail Alliance, which builds and maintains southern Maine’s Eastern Trail, a multi-use recreational “greenway” trail designed for bikers, joggers, and walkers. The various-distance rides partially used the greenway, although much of the routes were on paved roads – with volunteers and police presence to ensure safety. And as you might guess from the name, the routes incorporated various Maine lighthouses along their routes.

It was a beautiful day, and rather than keep blabbering, here are a few pictures from the day.
As the saying goes, enjoy the ride!
