Modernism Week (d) – Feb 2015

I will be the first to admit to knowing very little (that means nothing) about Modernism Week, held in Palm Springs, CA for the last 10 years. If it hadn’t been for some particular people (our friends Chuck and Susan Nesbit, Jim/Lynda Polk, Mona Heath, and some of the great people involved with the Greater LA WBCCI group) for getting us “hooked up”, then I would still be ignorant of this fabulous event!

Modernism Week is held in Palm Springs each year to celebrate the mid-century modernism (think 50’s) that was practiced by some well-known architects and designers. This includes architecture designed and built in this period, décor, art, fashion, contemporary thinking – all in support of education, preservation and sustainable modern living.

This week is SO rich in materials, and Palm Springs is SO cool and eclectic, that I am forced to divide these posts into “buckets”. So I will review (no, I won’t “review” anything – I will give you a few pictures and then you can review) commercial buildings, residential homes, and trailers from the Vintage Trailers show – all in time. Trust me when I say – you want to be in Palm Springs, and you want to be here during Modernism Week (check it out for next year). More to follow…
