Blue Ridge Parkway (VA) – Aug 2014

What a great day in the Virginia Blue Ridge area! We drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway (stunning), visited the Mabry Mill (which is gorgeous and really interesting), and then headed down to Galax where the 79th Old Fiddlers Convention is being held this week. We then headed to the Blue Ridge Music Center where… Read More Blue Ridge Parkway (VA) – Aug 2014

Airstream Park (VA) – August 2014

We arrived at Highland Haven Airstream Park in Copper Hill, VA and were greeted with friendly smiles, beautiful views and cool temperatures (yeah!). Today we visited Floyd, VA, which turns out to be a REALLY cool town. After dinner we headed to the Floyd Country Store (home of the Friday Night Jamboree) where we were… Read More Airstream Park (VA) – August 2014

Vogel State Park (GA) – June 2014

Absolutely gorgeous campground in the north Georgia mountains! We met up with friends, paddled in the lake, hiked on some trails, and were rewarded Saturday night with a blue grass concert from John Nix and the Country Cousins. Does it get better than that?

Smoky Mountains NP (TN) – June 2014

Note:  Sorry, this is not a new post, just fixing a broken link to an old post from back in 2014.  Still, pretty cool to look back! Up for a long weekend at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, camped at the Elkmont campground with a site right on the river.  While physically located near Gatlinburg,… Read More Smoky Mountains NP (TN) – June 2014

Fort Desoto CP (FL) – May 2014

One of our favorite campgrounds ever, Fort DeSoto County Park is the perfect getaway near St. Petersburg, FL, particularly if you like nature, camping, kayaking, beaches, biking… you get the picture. Went out this morning and paddled right alongside porpoises, and saw all kinds of bird wildlife, including an Ospree. Yesterday I was paddling side… Read More Fort Desoto CP (FL) – May 2014

Oscar Scherer SP (FL) – Jan 2014

Like every other Florida State Park we have been to, Oscar Scherer State Park is terrific. Located in a fairly densely populated area between Venice and Sarasota on the Florida gulf coast, you would never know you were camped in an urban area. Hiking, bike trails, kayaking – awesome. We watched a parent bald eagle… Read More Oscar Scherer SP (FL) – Jan 2014

Canopener (FL) – Jan 2014

We got to Topsail a week early so we could work. Sometimes it’s lonely at the Top! A lot of empty sites – the poor folks in Site 145 (how sad). What a great time, great people, lots of fun, obviously better pictures of the event from others. Topsail is a great SP in Florida,… Read More Canopener (FL) – Jan 2014

Alpine (TX) – Oct 2013

Can you say Hoss? That’s right – this is where Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza hales (or went to school, or something). Alpine, TX – pretty close to the middle of nowhere, but home to Sul Ross State University. Now you are surely saying, why didn’t you say so? NOW I know where you were!

Marfa (TX) – October 2013

If this isn’t just the coolest place on earth, I don’t know what would be. Marfa, TX is pretty much in the middle of nowhere (not too far in a relative sort of way to Big Bend National Park); artsy, fartsy mixed with throw down farmers and cattle hands. Fabulous destination if you have a… Read More Marfa (TX) – October 2013

ABQ Balloon Fiesta (NM) – Oct 2013

The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is another one of those events where words are superfluous. Attached are a few shots out of literally hundreds – each one better than the next. We were fortunate to join in the Airstream group and as such were parked for the weekend right next to the field where the balloons… Read More ABQ Balloon Fiesta (NM) – Oct 2013

Grand Canyon North (AZ) – Oct 2013

What can you possibly say about the Grand Canyon that either hasn’t already been said or simply doesn’t need to be said? We arrived at the North Rim campground 6 hours before the government shutdown, so the next morning the rangers came around and told us we needed to vacate within 48 hours. Fortunate for… Read More Grand Canyon North (AZ) – Oct 2013

Great Basin NP (NV) – September 2013

Probably one of the least well-known national parks in the country, Great Basin NP is actually in Nevada, but not far from the Utah line. But it is not close to ANYTHING! Camping is basic boondocking, but it is gorgeous. Due to truck issues, our trip here was curtailed, but hope to be back again!

Capitol Reef NP (UT) – Sept 2013

Capitol Reef NP (Capitol Reef National Park) really unique in that while the national park is stunningly gorgeous with intricate rock formations, at its center is a lush valley replete with rushing streams and a canopy of trees and fruit trees from when the Mormons developed orchards of apples and other fruit. We happened to… Read More Capitol Reef NP (UT) – Sept 2013

Canyonlands NP (UT) – Sept 2013

For anyone who has traveled to the western national parks, you already know that most of them are comprised of breathtaking views, and Canyonlands National Park is no exception. Canyonlands National Park We traveled off road on some of the 4 wheel trails. They are more than a little intimidating;  I would have preferred to… Read More Canyonlands NP (UT) – Sept 2013
